My son and his Slovak wife and four children live in the High Tatras. She is a member of a conservation programme for wild life and apart from other things, she is on a team who once a year is their job to count goats in order to see how they are flourishing. Many bears stroll down to the hamlet where they live and try and raid the bins when they wake up and are hungry but there is still deep snow around. My son often films them right outside his door. The Slovak National Park is also a marvel of nature and species. All four of my grandchildren are expert skiers and skaters as my daughter in law used to be a professional ski instructor. I am due to go and visit them in a couple of week’s time and temperatures can go down to -20 up there, so am all ready with my thermals and thick socks! I’m looking forward to some clean alpine air away from London!
I live in Northants and my youngest girl didn't see my beloved mountains yet. Hopefully next summer we do some treks on Tatras and Slovak Paradise national park.
There are so many amazingly beautiful places in Europe. We don't have to go far to see beauty, we have it all here. Thanks to the people that dedicate their lives to preserve them.
A beautifully produced video, with a narrator who speaks clearly and slowly enough. No harsh or loud music, love it! Thank you for helping get thru a difficult time by sharing this view of a part of the world i will never visit. 😊
I was introduced to the Tatras by Slovakian friend in the summer of 1992. I returned during the last week of the same year and spent the year end in these mountains. On New Year's Eve, I saw out not only 1992 but the former country of Czecho-Slovakia and saw in 1993 and the new Slovak Republic. A most beautiful setting for a historic event.
Poland near Tatra Mountains , I was born .I visited every inch of my Country ,when young .Best time ever in my life. I planned to visit ,when war in Europe goes to end .
Amidst the hidden danger of climate change, the portrait of sustainability and the saga of regeneration is a rainbow for environmentalists across the globe; long live Tatra's slope from the greedy eyes of so-called civilized people. Thanks to the entire team for this amazing and awesome journey garnished with vibrant narration.
What a beautiful place.the narrator asks early on "what does this place have that makes the bears want to live here?" I think personally that it is what the place doesn't have that makes the bears want to live there. Humans!!! great work and cheers from NZ 🇳🇿
This is great. I'm loving learning about and seeing images of our European natural areas. The information about the effect of the flood on the riverbed is fascinating: how it created new sand banks which provided bare soil for willows to grow.
Amazing mountain range. There are so many hiking trails and forestry roads. Days out in the mountains with only meeting a handful of people are still easy to obtain.
@@jezalb2710 You need to pick and choose which trails at which time of year, but yes, in the Tatras. I've met a mother bear and cub this year in August and also had an encounter with a deer grazing along a forestry road in September. I didn''t meet 1 other person along the forestry road.
Tatra Mountains have been practically untouched in Poland for the last 1000 years. Highlanders who chose to live there found a way to coexist with the nature. Also with terrain that difficult it's nearly impossible to harvest trees commercially not to mention open a full scale mining operation or production. And so the life in Tatra continues as it always has - in its own pace.
As a child my parents & I hiked these mountains picking berries & mushrooms, fishing the streams & observing wildlife, once I got picked up by an eagle only to be dropped to the ground.
Much like Sir David Attenborough, the narrator's voice has such a calming and welcoming affect that adds so much to the documentary. I'd like to know who it is, so I can visit more videos with him guiding me through it
Excellent documentary...thank you for taking the time to explain the wildlife habitats and behavior, as well as the various flora. I wasn't aware there was such an area reserved for bears in Europe, so well done! Here in the states, bear populations have become so abundant in some areas they are sometimes considered a nuisance, which can be expected, as they are attracted to trash cans and bins.
You know, same happen here... We got them a lot, i am happy for them but there also a big risk last few years when u want to go to forrest for hike or so.. Attracted by bins? Of course, same same.. Cattles attacked? yes. Humans attacked by bears? Yes, thats the nature. Am i afraid of them? Yes but it never stop me visit their habitant :) Mostly lot of people dont want to accept them but they dont understand, its a bears land.. we have cities and willagies, they have forests. Sorry for my english.. hopefully is understandable
Visit from Slovakian side and lots of fine hiking possibilities available ... Stick to the mapped paths and avoid main tourist season. A splendid hiking area 😍
Humans, forever the misfits in nature. How can we even claim, that we are the most intelligent species? We want everything, even the safehaven of the most vulnerable animals. (I'll check out for a video on the Polish disaster.)
What all secrets r concealed in these far away remote mountains !! Mostly the secret lives of the the Bear's r being followed !! Let's watch this n follow the forest's hidden lives !!!
The said about the growth of the trees from trash is not entirely true. A tree releases special acids which dissolve the stone. Then it starts feeding off the mineral substances that can be thus absorbed. It's far more complex than one would expect on first sight.
Thats there too, just across the border in the Czech Republic, I dont want to offend anybody(Irish or Germans), but they have the best beers in the world and the price... a bargin.
@@morho9422 Ups! You're right. Somebody told me that before, but I keep on forgetting there's a difference.I feel like a big idiot! Thanks for reminding me again @Mor Ho. This time it sinks in.
All wild nature is just superficially beautiful! Look what happened to the poor young male bear that got killed by an older male. Also, the deer that broke its leg and died, the mother bird that lost most of its chicks, the fish that got killed by a Kingfisher and an otter! There is nothing glorious about nature up close!!!😢😮
@@mm34639 I don't think the strong wind you mentioned (was it in 1998?) Or so, has anything to do with climate change. River Bela the only free running river in Slovakia only around few km long flowing down from High Tatra mountains shown in this documentary must had been filmed in 1997. That was the year with the abnormal rain fall which has amended the river bad. Accidentally I was there fly fishing Bela as I was nearly every Sommer weekends in 1995 - 1997. Returned there to flyfish after 20 years in 2016, just to find river Bela destroyed with silly Electrical power station, which they build on it. Why we humans destroy everything hard to tell.
